Concrete Estimator

Use the Ready-mix Concrete Volume Estimator to calculate the volume of concrete you require for your job.

This tool enables you to calculate the necessary amount of concrete for your construction task, accommodating both US Customary Units (feet and inches) and the International System of Units or metric units (meters and centimeters).

Concrete purchases are predominantly measured in cubic yards, equivalent to 27 cubic feet. For instance, a project of 10 ft by 10 ft, with a 3.5-inch depth, will require just over 1 cubic yard. In metric terms, a single cubic yard is approximately equivalent to 0.76 cubic meters.

This calculator simplifies the process of estimating the required concrete material costs for your project. For more detailed pricing, reach out to one of our sales representatives.

Invariably, not every concrete pour goes perfectly, so it’s wise to include a little extra in your order as a precaution. The exact amount to order will depend on your site’s size and complexity, as well as the impact on your budget.

The concrete calculator is a great starting point for project planning. Ensure you consult with one of our sales representatives when you’re ready to place your order.

To utilize the calculator:

  • Select your preferred unit of measurement: English or Metric
  • Input the project’s width, length, and thickness
  • Input the reserve volume for the mix (see FAQs below)
  • Click ‘Next’ and fill in the information that proceeds to request a quote

Frequently Asked Questions

How much concrete constitutes a yard?

The measure for concrete is cubic yards. Laid out on an impeccably flat surface, a single cubic yard would spread across 27 square feet, given a thickness of one foot.

A whole, uninterrupted piece of concrete has an approximate weight of two tons (or 4,000 pounds) for every cubic yard. When you break up the concrete, the weight is reduced by about half, equating to approximately one half ton (or around 2,000 pounds) per cubic yard.
To formulate a yard of concrete, roughly 45 bags weighing 80 pounds each (or alternatively, 90 bags weighing 40 pounds each) are required. However, due to the substantial time and effort needed to mix such a quantity, opting for ready mix concrete delivery is often more efficient and cost-effective for larger tasks.
Heroic Concrete & Concrete Products (HCCP) offers ready mix concrete, tailored to your precise needs, and delivered directly to your work site. For substantial projects, ordering ready mix concrete by the yard is more straightforward and efficient. This type of concrete is perfect for extensive patios, updating driveways, constructing pool decks, laying home foundation slabs, paving parking lots, and establishing new sidewalks. Conversely, if you are engaging in small-scale DIY home improvements, a yard of concrete would be excessively large. In such instances, choosing bagged products for self-mixing is more advisable. This approach suits smaller endeavors such as minor repairs (to curbs, sidewalks, stairs, etc.), creating ramps, crafting small patios, and setting fence posts.
Ordering a precise amount of concrete for a project is risky. It is advisable to include an additional 10 to 15% in your order to cover potential issues such as spillage during the pour, irregular subgrades, and other unforeseen variables. Running out of concrete mid-pour is notably costlier than the expense of ordering extra from the outset. A shortage could delay your project, increase labor costs, necessitate additional truck dispatches, and negatively impact your budget and profit margin. Moreover, the quality of the pour is likely to degrade, with risks such as the formation of a cold joint, where two separate pours fail to merge smoothly. In extreme cases, this might necessitate demolishing and redoing the entire work.
